As of December 2019, SAP co-founder Dietmar Hopp owned 96 percent of the shares in TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH and effectively controlled both club and company. This was possible because he had supported Hoffenheim for more than 20 years before taking over and, in July 2015, was therefore allowed to assume the majority of voting rights despite the DFB’s 50+1 rule.
